Convenience Sushi?
In Kitchen Confidential, Anthony Bourdain warns against eating “cheap sushi,” but today when I was on a completely random trip to Whole Foods, I picked up a Tuna Avocado Roll to eat when I got home.

Partially-eaten sushi with a lemon?
According to The Sushi FAQ, which has a Whole Foods section, it should clock in at around 179 calories, 2 g of fat (for two fatty ingredients? really?) 1 g of fiber and 5 g of protein. Other websites list much more calories and fat, so I have no idea what to make of it. I’ll have to do more research.
Anyway, That’s not the point. The fats are good fats and there’s no mayo-based sauces or cream cheese in it, so it’s a relatively good choice, but if you’re trying to work on cutting sugar out of your diet, sushi rolls are not a good choice. Sugar in the rice, sugar in the ginger, and really no telling how much. Plus, it was made with white rice which I really don’t eat.
All of that aside, it was just mediocre. Do I really want to pay $6.60 for grocery store sushi? When I say it like that, I feel like it was a poor choice. I’d rather drive a little further up the road and pay a few more dollars for the good stuff. Then I can fill up on miso soup and some edamame and eat my fish sashimi style, avoiding the white rice and the sugar.
I have now spent way too long writing this and now I’m craving a tri-color sashimi roll and missing my friends. Goodnight!

Sushi with Tara & Andy at a restaurant in LA... that's the sashimi roll in the middle.
